Typicly 1 in 3 F20s seem to have mouse dammage in the clutch housing. You guys would be wise to stop up the timing hole. third party image

I feel your pain Cowman. Last spring I was working on a Case 300 TLB , got it running but the clutch wouldn't disengage. Tried everything even wiring down the clutch pedal & pulling the 806 with it & having my son hit the breaks on the 06 when we got rolling no go. Got it in the shop the proper way was to remove the loader than the hoe than the sub frame. I blocked the loader up , blocked the hoe and used the overhead hoist & 10 ton floor jack. With enough force & some questions on the Case board I still couldn't get it a part ! There is a hole about 1" I spent about 7 hours under it one Sunday with 4 1/2 in wrenches The last 2 bolts were so bad I used the air chisel to get the clutch loose from the flywheel. Guess what The tractor came apart I had to use a torch & heavy puller to get the clutch off the input shaft. What I sent to clutch & Joint didn't look any better than what you have there. Almost 400 later I was going the other way with it

WOOOOO W!!!! Very informative. I have an F-20 that I have on hold with clutch problems from when I bought it. In fact I have gotten a few parts from you in anticipation of the time to address it. I guess that's what I can expect to find.

Right now I am at work and my memory is faulty. Just how difficult is that to cure Cowman? Can I simply removed the small drive train and open up the clutch casing? Of can I expect to have to remove the engine from the frame and expect to have to really fight to get all of that off of the crankshaft and back on again?

Ya, just remove the rear clutch housing. If everthing is free you are in luck. This one the clutch disk was stuck on the spline but it was rusty enough that the whole plate gave way and allowed it come loose. I have had to smash the housing one time on one that refused to budge. If you need to you can remove the flywheel through that opening too but you need a heavy puller.

About 3 yearas ago in the spring my son's then girl friend's dad borrowed his F-20 to pull a drill for the FFA bean plot. About two hours into the planting he came to the end of the field and the clutch wouldn't release. Mice had built a nest in the clutch, and it got packed in and cracked the pressure plate. Nate foune one at RPRU and we made the switch, but it sure was a mess in there.

Years ago I had a F-20 with a bumblebee nest in the clutch housing. It looked like it had been in there for years and was almost as bad as the one in your photos. Whatever the bees used must have held moisture for long periods of time.
