I did this to my M a couple years ago - your best resource and manual is this site. If in fact you do have a 1953, I think that would make it a Super M - check out the serial numbers on the side. Regardless, I'm pretty sure an M of that late year would have a hardened cam gear, so that wouldn't be needed. The early ones were too light to run a pump. You also need a pump off a Super M or a M&W aftermarket pump. Ebay for $250ish. I would also recommend a new front cover. I went the cheap way and modified mine, I wish I wouldn't have. Then of course, hoses, spool valves, etc. You can use the reserve of your belly pump for oil storage. Or an external tank - mine had storage in the loader arms. By the time I was done, I figure I had $700 into the conversion, but it was worth every penny. So search your archives and do it that way - there is every answer you want there. Thats what I did.
