What are some of the variations found in a late 1952 Farmall H (not Super H) compared to earlier versions of the same unit? Benefits, detractors, etc... Thanks boys!

Guy Fay's info: About 1200 53 H's, 30000 52 M's, including a few Super M's, 14000+ 52 Super M's, about 10054 54 Super H's, 21916 53 Super H's. I don't think your buddy paid any attention to the years, as they are not like cars, and don't necessarily come out with new models all that often. There is also some confusion in my mind about whether these were calendar year tractors or fiscal year. Any question on that can be at least be partially answered by the casting dates on most castings.

Not sure about 53 SH assembly dates, only saw a couple of late ones at shows. But on the 54 SH some have the casting dates in 54 so they were definatly assembled in 54.On 52 M,had a couple and some castings were cast in 52.February of 52 on trans, engine and rear wheels on one.

Billy, CNKS has about run the gambit on what features appeared on nearly all H"s. One feature that does distinguish the 1952 from all the other years is that only on the 52 did the voltage regulator appear on the rear side of the fuel tank pedistal. I know of no other features which would distinguish the 52, exclusively from any other year. I have a 52 model myself.

I have a late 1951 H s/n 374379 with the voltage regulator mounted on the rear fuel tank support. Casting codes all indicate it was a December or so tractor. Guy Fay's Tractor Data book list the s/n as a 1951 though. Hal

I have a 1950 H with the voltage regulator in that position. Appears to have always been there.

The H was made into 53,from 39 to then almost every part on tractor was changed.A lot of changes
would take the parts laying side to side to ever
notice.Later improvements bigger clutch, larger rod and main bearing crank, larger bearing on trans input shaft, stronger diff and bull pinion
bearings with the change to disc brakes.along the way pto changed, hydraulic pump pressure increased
,start controls, charge systems, seats,Ratiator, and on and on.

None of any great importance. The last few thousand had Super H disk brakes, if that's an advantage. If you compare the early 50's to the early--mid 40's, most would have gasoline (X1 designation) engines, rather than the lower HP kerosene/distillate versions, and battery (distributer) ignition instead of a magneto. Most later models will have the deluxe seat. Most of the war year tractors came on steel, many of those were converted to "cutoffs" with the rubber tire rims welded to the spokes. To me the factory rubber tire wheels "look" better, that is only an opinion. That is not to say there were no running changes, there were, but they did not make any tremendous night and day difference. Basically an H is an H. If you are buying or selling one, the condition is more important than the year of manufacture.

You forgot to mention that later H"s (don"t know the serial # break) could utilize the IH hydraulic pump. I have a "52 and that"s a nice option to have. Randy
