The transmission holds 13 gal of 90w is that correct? Are the trans and rear end drive sharing fluid or are they separated? Last question. I aquired a 51 M, It probably has sat dorment for Lord only knows. I removed the drain plug under the trans and the fluid is like tar. There is also a drain plug at the back of the rear end housing (hense my second question on common compartment for fluid or separate)and the fluid is the same situation. Is there anything short of dissasembly and cleaning that will break this up and drain the system to install fresh lubricant?

13 gallons is correct. Take the plug out of the back and drain it also. If you have a belt pully, you need to take the bolts out of the side and drain the water. Save about a quart to put in the hole in the top of the belt pully. Most people say to put a couple gallons of Kerosene in the trans and run it up and down the drive way a couple of times, then drain and fill with fresh oil. I got mine at tractor supply, about $35 for 5 gallons. Save the Kero for the next time you need to burn a pile of brush.
