It sure will. 3rd gear and 2/3 to wide open throttle is just about the right speed for planting.

Yes it will, but if the planter has a full compliment of fertilizer, insecticide, and herbicide boxes, plus the optional furrow openers, then it does get to be a bit of a load, and you will be in 1st gear. The H will still get-er-done, but it will be slow.

Sure will, won't even strain it much. My H has pulled a 490, and a 494 with no trouble at all.

I don't know what a JD 494 is, but if it is a typical light duty planter, the answer is yes. It does not take much power to pull that type of planter.
