A friend has a 300 with a loader. The problem he is having there is a clunk in it as he drives it. He don't farm and uses it to unload trailers that he sells. some snow removal. Is there a common part that goes out? Any ideas?

Bob: I question the use of the word common, these tractors are now 50 years old, could be a wide range of items, all the way from loose wheel weights, bearings, chipped or worn gears. Then for the possibilities, multiply by the number of each of bearings, gears and wheel weights.

Sure the wheel weights aren't loose causing this noise? Hal

It could also be a loose wheel lug.

On the 300, these rear ends were pretty much rock solid. It wasn't until they started overhorsing them on the 460 and 656 that there were problems.

The only way you're going to figure out what's wrong is to take it apart and troubleshoot. It could be a chipped gear tooth. It could be a bad bearing.

Nat, the 656 rear end was pretty much bullet proof. Most of the bearings were tapered rollers, unlike the 460/560, which used straight roller and ball bearings. You spread quite a bit of bad info on this forum, I suggest you only post about the stuff you know for a fact. You don't want someone to get a bad feeling about a model they may be considering purchasing from incorrect info.
