When I push the starter button it sparks at the steering column I can"t find anything that would cause this Could the starter button itself be arching out on steering column?

Had the same problem. After checking it out, I found that the terminal on the Starter cable was touching the housing around the switch. When I pushed on the switch button it would short the battery to positive ground and shoot sparks out what I thought was the swicth. I simply loosened the nut and readjusted the cable and now it is fine.

Most likely a bad starter switch, I have had two that did the same, New starter switch fixed both. Ed

Most likely corroded and or loose connections. Take the cables off and clean the ends up with sandpaper so that they are bright and shiny, do the same thing to the mounting stud where the cables attach, and the reinstall, get the nuts good and tight, but do not overtighten.

Worn wiring, probably. Pull it off and rewire.
