Used Clutch Question

Hi guys does anyone have exsperiance in using a used clutch? This tractor that the motor I am building came out of was sitting for at least 7 to 10 years maybe more. The clutch looks like it was replaced just before it sat. The pressure plate has no cracks or heat marks and the fly wheel looks to have been replaced also it was a loader tractor. Should I replace the clutch and pressure plate or use these it will go to the pulls hopefully and also be a farm tractor. JON

It depends on what you are willing, or can, afford. If your rebuild is anything like mine, you end up spending more than you thought originally. So, if can afford it, using a new clutch is probably going to last for a long time. If on the other hand you have a a better place for the ~$150, you can probably put the old one back in - especially if it looks as good as the one you have.

Remember, you can change the clutch in an H without splitting the tractor (the job isn't too bad) if you have to. One thing I did when I re-built my "hopped-up" H was to put in a SH flywheel and clutch to better handle the extra power and my wife's abuse.

By the way Jon, did that mag core I sent get to you?

I assume that all of the clutch parts came out of the same tractor? If so, and they are as good as you say, I would put them back in and use it. A used clutch disk from one tractor, pressure plate from another tractor, etc., could give problems, but eventually even those parts would mate to each other and work OK.
