I have a 49 M, and the battery connectors look goofy. The positive appears to be the ground. If I want to jump this thing do I still hook it up red to red or do I switch this around.

Also, I can't read my front knob on the tractor (lights etc...) Where should I have this knob set.

Thanks for you help.

All Ms were 6V positive ground from the factory.

Is it a 3-position, or 4-position light switch? 3-position is OFF-DIM-BRIGHT, with OFF being all the way to the left. 4-position is LOW CHARGE, HIGH CHARGE, DIM, BRIGHT starting all the way to the left and going clockwise.

I believe it is a 4 switch. What positions would you recommend leaving it in, Low or High?

Thanks for your help

If you're not operating the tractor for long periods of time I would leave it on High. Hal

Nothing goofy about it, tractors of that period were positive ground. If you jump it, connect positive to positive and negative to negative. Make sure you use the correct voltage source for jumping too.
