When pto is engaged first thing in the morning , it doesn"t want to turn for 5 or 10 seconds, once it starts working it"s fine for the rest of the day. Any Ideas on what"s wrong?

Hi Gene,

I don"t think anything is wrong. Seen lots of "em do that. Fact is, don"t they all do that when they are cold?

Allan

I"ve got an 806 gas that I use to use to spread manure in the winter and even at 40 below it always started to turn right away, maybe it was the exception?

Boy,

I sure don"t know, Gene. Maybe those pickup tubes get partially blocked or something.

Both my tractors do it on the first apply of the day.

Dunno,

Allan

I guess we got a few exceptions to the rule too. I don"t think our 656 Hydro, 806, 2500A, and 966 have never done that. I doubt it is anything to worry about though. You guys just have to use the PTO more often!!lol You could start by helping us finish cutting hay. Make sure you bring a jacket though, it was 40 deg. F on Sunday.

Normally I wouldn"t worry about it but I"ve got it hooked to the chopper and when it starts it does so with a bang, could be hard on joints, guess I"ll have to disconnect the shaft till it decides to go. I would much rather be cutting hay but I"m having so much fun getting stuck chopping corn, we got a foot of rain a week ago and is slow drying out.

Gene, to avoid the "bang", try holding the lever in the "start up" position until it decides to start, then move it all of the way forward. The start up position is obtained by moving the lever slightly forward to the point where the shaft would just start to turn. In this position, only 40 psi of oil pressure is being sent to the PTO clutch pack, allowing the PTO to be feathered.
