Finally got that Zenith going that was flooding out and running rich on my Super A. I'll share what it was: I had set the float to specs (1 + 5/32"). At that setting, the fuel level was apparently getting too high, especially when the tractor was in motion, causing my problems. Through trial and error, I ended up resetting the float to 1 + 8/32", (or, 1 + 1/4"). I had that carb off and on so many times, I thought about attaching it with wingnuts.
Problem solved - at least for now.

Mike, thanks for the update. I just replaced my original carb on my new-to-me '49 Super A after I saw the inside, full of crud and rust, and a missing float where the previous owner had wired a piece of plastic in place. Needless to say, it was leaking gas too.
But I haven't fired-up the new one yet, so I'll keep an eye out for that same problem you had.

I just got my governor back yesterday, which had so much slop that I had to push the throttle a third before I got any response. I'm darn near a governor-expert now, so if you run into any problems with that, ping me on e-mail, but if you do, title it "Super A", because I get so many offers for stocks, meds, dates, and enlargements that I might delete it by accident.

Hal: You are correct, it is less, meaning I reset it with more distance off the flange @ 1 + 1/4", which lowers the fuel level in the bowl. (You measure while holding it upside down.)

I thought about it later and figured that's what you did. Glad you solved the problem. Hal
