Allan...you are one of the 656D guys here...got a question.
Brought the 656D to Texas dad and my uncle had. It looks like heck...but runs like a bandit. Dad took the gas engine out and put a 660D engine he rebuilt in it. Just befor he died he put a turbo on it. Pulls like crazy. Problem is, it smokes like its on fire when cold. Once it gets warmed up the smoke goes away and it runs clean. It does not use oil so it must be fuel. We used it a little last night and I had to get it out of the shed the smoke was so bad. I could hardly see.
Is this typical? Just does not seem right to me. It was about 50F when we used it...so it was not real cold.
Any ideas?

MNDOT did a study with biodiesel mix of 20% in their plow trucks... the results were a lot less smoke in the truck barn, you could actuall see across the shop with all the trucks running...

Hold the glow plugs for a good min before starting and hold them on after starting this will help reduce the smoking thing the old D 236-282's helped reduce the bugs and killed off then pestie birds in the shed .

Yepper,

I'm with the rest of the fellas. It won't smoke quite so bad when it's 105 out. :>)

Paps smokes so much you can't see in the open doored shed. Smoke even rolls out for 2-4 minutes after you leave the shed. We have had people stop and think our shed was on fire. And the tractor don't use oil.
