Hi John,

None of the above. Repair it the right way or you're going to ruin that block.

My 2 cents,

Allan

Now if i was doing it i would have the block bored and install a repair sleeve and bore to fit the loose one as they should be a press fit not had fit . Now as the guy with the 460 diesel that had one that was a hand fit yep they will end up in the pan every thime and when doing a rebuild on a 6 cylinder gasser or diesel on the the top of the block you will see a stamping of either A-B or C-D this the BORE class of that hole and the kits you get from after market only fit A-B class holes and if ya use them in a C -D hole they will be loose and will find there way to the pan and yes some guy will use LOC TIGHT but i won't as the heat from the engine can melt the LOC TIGHT and then if i am doing the engine and a sleeve comes out WHO gets to fix it again at my expence . If a sleeve is loose i either get the correct sleeve or bore and re sleeve to fit and then you are done with it .

I had one to come out of an H a few years ago. I had heard a clicking sound in the motor for a couple of years and just figured it was a valve. While mowing one day, it let go. It cut a hole in the oil pan. I bought a one cylinder repair kit and installed new sleeve with locktite. I coated the sleeve and block. So far ,so good and no more pecking sound.

I was told to use locktight 580 or something like that. I dont know how the stuff works my self I let it set on the work bench for a few days and it never did anything. Unless heat hardens it. But I used it around one of my loosest sleeves.
Just be carefull on what you use that you can still get the sleeve in and it wont melt when it gets hot. JON

John, My Dad and I overhauled my 460D one time, we bought brand X sleeve kit because it was cheeper all the sleeves went in loose. A few years after my Dad passed away, my son was raking hay with it and it smothered out and died. He restarted it and finished raking, it was knoking. When we tore it down, one sleeve was laying in the pan. 4 of the remaining 5 came out with the pistons, all the holes were egg shaped so I had to have the block bored and put over size sleeves in it.
