On my M at the oil filler cap for the crankcase there is a lever (seems inoperable) that has a rod attached to it. the rod goes back toward the operator but was apperantly broken off midway years ago and disregared by the previous owner. Does anyone know what this lever is for. Is it some type of primer devise for the oil? I read through my owners manual but can not find any reference to it.
Also my tractor is a distillute model.

I would think that shutters would have been more common on distillate fuel models than gas only.

Shutters on the rad help stabalize engine temperature. Not something you usually worry about in warm climates but when you are out in
-30 you can close the shutters for faster warm up.
Have to remember to open them again, expecially in summer.

Sounds to me like it may have had radiator shutters and that is part of the control linkeage. I havenever seen them on an M but it is the only thing I can think of that would be.

Shutters were standard on the distilate & kyro fuel tractors. They were used to keep the engine temp high enough to vaporize the fuel better. Shutters would still be useful to heat the old engine up once in a while. Burn the carbon out. JMHO ken
