I purchased an older PTO generator a couple months ago at an auction. I finally got around to finishing all the wiring for it this weekend and was going to test it out. I started to hook it up to my 574 and it suddenly dawned on me its set up for a 1000-RPM PTO and all I have is a 540-RPM on the 574. I know some 574’s had dual PTO shafts but all I have is the 540 and a flat cover over the lower shaft location. What’s would be involved in adding the 1000 RPM shaft in this situation. Does it require dismantling the whole tranny or can it be done with minimal disassembly? Any suggestions as to where to get the parts? Any other ideas?
Tim

Hi TWafer and JB2, you have to buy the 1000 rpm PTO shaft, the cover with a hole and a seal. Remove the shaft, by removing the spring pin that hold it in the PTO clutch pack, and the rear cover. Place the 1000 rpm PTO shaft in place, secure with the spring pin and bolt the cover. That's it. Bernard le mécano Québec Canada

Thanks Bernard!
So is the roll pin accessible through the side cover then?

Hi TWafer, yes, you remove the pin by the right round cover. Hold the clutch pack when you pull on the shaft. Make sure to align carefully the shaft with the clutch pack before you press the spring pin. Bernard le mécano Québec Canada

Hi Tim, about 10 years ago my brother traded a 384 for a 495 and a belt pulley. The belt pulley for 495 requires the 1000 RPM PTO, The dealer agreed to install the 1000 RPM PTO for very little money, so I would assume it does not require transmission tear down. The 495 and 574 have same transmission/rear end just D239 engine in 574.

Maybe Bernard le Mecano will reply. He has probably installed a few 1000 RPM PTOs.
