I bought a W9D pretty cheap, of course all of the cylnders are stuck. The head needs some attention, I don't know how well the pits can be removed, or how far you can have one resurfaced. I read this forum alot and have posted a couple of times. Lots of good info from you folks on here!! Sorry, back to my question. I was going to fill the cylnders up and let her soak for a while. Is it possible, if I get her loose, that the rings, pistons and Cylinders can be cleaned up enough with out replacing them? What do you folks think? Thanks a bunch:)

I use tranny fluid and or turpentine, had more then one tractor engine locked up and got them freed up that way and have never had to pull the head off. These tractors run well and use little or no oil and don't smoke. One of them is an H that sat in the same place for 25 plus years and it purrs like a kitten, it was locked up tight enough that a pipe wrench on the hand crank and a 6 foot cheater bar wouldn't turn it over. But the starter did after a few hits on a 12 volt battery.

Well the reason I pulled the head off was that when working the change over levers they seemed real tight, and no matter how much I squirted Wd40 on everything they stayed tight. These critters are new to me, I was raised up around an M, 560D, 460G, 806, 450, 860 Ford(Grandpas)and a 1066 turbo. I wasn't for sure what was causing the problem. Another big factor, the exhaust manifold where the cast iron pipe threads in was pretty much gone.I drained 4 gal of water out of the pan when i got her home, again I got this thing CHEAP. So I was sure there was probably some valves stuck. I didn't want to risk tearing her up more if there was a valve stuck and a piston would hit it. I wasn't for sure if these guy's are zero clearance on the valves. So I jerked the head off to have a looky.

I used transmission fluid for soaking. Once you remove the pistons you can then clean the sleeves
and check for wear & any pits. I used a piece of 2X2 oak and drove them out after it soaked for a week or so. Some of the men have used Coke. Just need to be patient too. Hal
