Skip When I worked on these tractors if I could not use the flow rater. My test was remove the pump and with the pump pressure port full of oil turn the pump with one hand and if I could hold my thump on the pressure as I turned the pump the pump was bad.

There is a gasket and o-ring package that you can get and also get the o-ring that goes between the trans housing and the MCV. That one seems like I'm always going back up to the parts counter for. Remember to get a new hyd filter just for pump warrenty reasons. Maybe even some fine emry cloth for cleaning up the spools.

THere is and AFTERMARKET spring kit for the mcv and you will need a seal and gskt pkg. if you are going that way but i would do some testing before i would spend money that may not be needed and i know you do not have a flow rater to check the pumps out put but it may be in your best intrest to have it done by the dealer it's real easy to spend money and still not solve the problem . We all can give you information on the what if's and maybe's but with out running the tests it is just guess work .

Spend the money and go ahead and rebuild the MCV assembly, All new gaskets, o-rings, springs, and seals. Then go ahead and put a new pump in it too. Nine times out of ten it is a bad MCV relief has trashed the internal tolerances of the pump, so both should be replaced/rebuilt at the same time. Also, don't try to "get by" with a rebuilt pump from a company such as A&I, you will take a deep screwing. (Been there, done that) Get the rebuilt unit through Case IH.... Your sanity will thank you later...

Go through MCV and replace hydraulic pump, it's junk.

You can try to change the hyd. filter first to see if it helps but I have a feeling that the pump is getting weak because it shouldn't have any trouble running at 30 or even 10 degree's. Might be a little stiff but should still work. I hope the reman pump is right from Case IH and not an aftermarket. I've had the best luck with those than anything else. I also suggest completely going through the MCV if you put a new pump on just to make sure the spools aren't hanging up and any junk that can be floating in the system is cleaned out. Also if the pump doesn't prime up after repair you can remove the 5/8 hex plug on the right side of the MCV,(little messy) start tractor up and shut off as soon as oil shoots out, and make sure you keep out of the way of the oil spray. Install plug and your good to go.

will it steer good on a warm day then the pump is not the problem, when was the last time that you changed oil and filter . do you use Hy Tran or something else . Now everybody is going to come down on me for this BUT Hy Tran is around a 20 weight hdy. oil and some of the stuff that you get elsewhere is sometime a 10 weigh as is the John Deere you could change out for the winter and go back to the hy tran . when it warms up . The least amount of water will get trapped in the filter and clog it and this is the biggest trouble why they won"t steer or sometimes not move till they warm up for fifteen or twenty min. Had one guy that would not change his filter but once a year and every winter his 766 would freeze up , one time it got below minus 20 for a couple days and it realy froze up to the point that we could not drag it to get it into the shop he even put diesel fuel in a barrel bottom and lit it under the rear end tryen to thaw it out and this was a gasser not smart at all we got the fire out and just in time as the sediment bowl had cracked . i ended up getting one of my tractor running so he could grind feed .
