Well after sitting for 6+ years, the 706 diesel cranked up after only being pulled around the barn 1.5 times. We drained the fuel, replaced the fuel filters, sprayed some starting fluid into the intake and it cranked right up. The batteries are shot, so we just pulled it off. Runs good for sitting that long. We parked it again until Spring (too cold to drive it especially when we have a cab tractor). One tractor down, three to go ( Super C, B, and Cub).

Just thought I would share.

I have a farmall 706 diesel didn't think you could pull start it but i have never tried it so i don't know but i was wondering how you steered it when mind is not running the steering wheel turns around freely because of the power steering i haven't had mind running in 8 years or so just my 2 cents worth

RobertW: They can be started with dead batteries. If its sat for that long just drain the fuel tank, and replaced both fuel filters. Bleed the fuel filters and it should be good to go from there. I sprayed starting fluiding into the intake as we towed it along. As far as the steering, the wheels will move on their own so they"ll go in the direction of whatever is towing it. Just make sure the fuel system is bled correctly.

I'm right there with you spray004. I inherited a 4020 from my great uncle with holes in the block from a thrown rod when I was 9. Already had been a few years sitting when I got it now I'm 17 and just last spring put a 7700 combine engine in it. Me and my buddy went to my grandmas place to mess around with the tractors. They had all sat 3 years since my grandpa died. His MF1100 of all tractors started on its own batteries right away. Next was the Ford 961D which he messed with the starter switch and all that wiring haven't looked into that yet; jumper cables from the battery to starter does it for now. My dad had a Super W6 with carb problems we let set in the back of the barn for 10 years then finally got some ambition to fix it over the summer when we realized we had 2 working tractors out of all of them. Just made the SW6 run consistently a couple of nights ago. Oh yea still have the ford 1000 loader that has bent rods in the bucket cylinders. But I have lots of fun fixin and playin around with all this stuff and to have em running again is even better. JaredM

You have too many tractors. You will have your hands full with the 706 this spring. I will take the SC, B & Cub off your hands for free to allow you to focus on the 706. (:-)) Congrats on getting the 706 running!

haha yeah we do have too many tractors, actually we also have two new JD's. The 706, SC, B and Cub were all my grandfathers. He was going to sell them since he doesn't farm anymore because of his age so we decided to buy them to keep them in the family. I doubt we'll do any work with them though, just toys for the weekend.

Good for you! Great toys and great to keep them in the family. I also have my hands full with a SC, Cub and a Blue 3000 that needs a ring job.

If you started it by pulling, you must not have a TA. I never had a Farmall with a hydraulic TA that would tow start- not like I did not want yo..... ..... QR

Only had to pull start my 856 once when the starter went belly up, but it started.
