Does anyone know anything about the reputation of these engines at all? I know a couple of rough specs and that they were usually marine engines. I was offered one and was just wondering if it wouldn't go nicely into some old tractor. Many thanks, SAm in NS

Look for a Perkins 6-354.
That"s the most common Perkins used in a lot of applications. MF tractors, harvesters, JCB dumptrucks, excavators, wheelloaders,....

If you want to use one in a tractor, make sure the rotation of the crank is the correct direction. From the little I know about marine engines, I know that sometimes the rotation is opposite of "normal". You could wind up with a tractor that has 5 reverse speeds and 1 forward!

Flipping the differential will make it go in the correct direction, (on many tractors is used to make all terrain fork trucks and the like.

Massey-Ferguson tractors used the Perkin engines
in some of their tractors. I don't think the S6M
was used. IH never used them in their tractors.
