Found the problem w/ the Number 3 cylinder on my 706. This is the one that was fouling the plugs and sounding funny. This is also the one that had the burnt valve.
Got all the pistons pulled today and the main crank shaft bearings replaced. Pretty dang slick way to change a bearing. Out and in lickity split.
I do need a little advice for the rear main bearing. Those two plastic noodles that run along the sides of the bearing block are a pain in the butt. Whats the trick on those?

Oil the rubbers up good and oil the bores also. Take a drill bit that fits loosly in the hole in the rubber plug and slowly seat it into the block. They are not bad at all to install, but don't use the pointy end to push the plug. Jake

I had a piston that looked to be about the same shape as yours. It never missed and it had a slight clicking noise. When I removed the oil filler cap there was a lot of oil blowing out. I thought there was compression blowing into the crankcase. This was on a GM 2.5L engine.

I pulled the head and there was groove worn into
the cylinder wall. When I pulled that piston
it had broken rings and a portion of the piston was missing. I pulled the engine and had it bored oversize. Ran like a new car after that.

I restored 5 or 6 Standard Twin garden tractors
and one Viking that were made in MN. This was about 30 years ago and I bought parts from American Farm Machinery in New York Mills and Ottertail MN. They used an all gear drive with a multi-disc clutch that ran in oil. When WW2
started they stopped production. The later tractors were on rubber. I never had one on rubber all were on steel. I still have the moldboard plow from one these tractors and adapted
it to my Gilson Garden tractor. The hydraulics
pick it up easily. That's a nice collection of tractors you have. Nice looking hay too. Hal
