I am planning on changing over my Regular to the variable speed governor like the ones found on the late F-20's. I have the field change-over parts that go on the outside of the engine, but was wondering what else I need to look for. I have heard there are differences with the governor itself, maybe lighter fly-weight springs? Also, is there a spring somewhere to keep the throttle linkage pressed against the governor control so the governor and open and close the throttle as it pleases? Normally, I think the governor can only close the throttle, not open it.

I use my '26 Regular as a mower tractor (homemade 120" 4-blade belly mower). I added the external vairable speed linkage and used the original governor. I don't quite remember exactly what I changed but I used lighter governor weight springs and moved the governor arm pull spring closer to the pivot point. Any way I ended up with a nice range of governor action. Most of the time I operate just a little above idle to 1/4 speed. The mower is run by a 20 hp Kohler twin.

The weights are differnt along with the arm on the inside of the governor cover. I have a guy that wants to put his back original. Maybe you guys should trade tractors?

Howard, I figured you would have the answer. This is my Grandfather's 1929 Regular, so it is not available for trade, but the parts may be. You can have him contact me at my email address. I think you should have it.

Can I make the standard parts work?
