Has any one ever had luck with sandblasting the inside of a fuel tank ? I have clened my tank twice but the rust just keeps plugging things up and thus leaving me sitting, any suggestions ?
Thanks in advance,
Jonathan Mirgon

Take that tank right to your machine shop and have it hot tanked...it's cheap, and does a wonderful job!

Hi Jon, I rigged up this old paint mixer and put a box of 1/4-20 locknuts and assorted bolts and mineral spirits and got the tank looking like new. I will probablly use Eastmans coating to protect it from rusting again.

My gas tank on the farmall c that I was restoring had rust and gas varnish in it. What I did was put rocks in it along with some minerial spirits and shake it. when you get tired from it, let it sit till later on and shake it some more. I did it for 2 days on and off and my tank was clean inside. Of couse you have to then clean out the tank real good and you have to remove the tank. It"s been 10 years and it still doesnt have any signs of rust. Good luck

Rap it in foam, fill it with a little buckshot, tie it to your favorite tractor wheel, plow the field.

I've used a 6 foot piece of dog chain inside the tank and shaken the tank in a circular pattern. Of course, this means removing the tank. Gets most of the rust loose so you can flush it out. Leave a length of wire attached to the chain for easy removal.

Why not sand blast then take it to the car wash with soap and good flush set in sun and let it dry.

I've had good luck putting an inline fuel filter on and just running the tractor.

Watch the sediment bowl and clean it regularly. You may have to pull the sediment bowl off the tank a couple of times to clean out the worst, but it will clean out.

the vibration and sloshing from running will clean them out. And it's not bad duty to run the tractor.

My self I would never sand blast one. You would be tradeing one problem for another problem. Best thing to do would be to buy the liner stuff for it. My self I have run water in the tank and let it run for a couple hours and have good luck that way other then the problewm of getting all the water out.
