Gene, I'm overhauling a C-113 out of a B. The front main sealing surface on the fan pulley was bad, so I got a new pulley. The old pulley had a set screw, the new one doesn't, press fit only. Would it hurt anything to drill and tap the new pulley and put a set screw in it?

Why not. I seem to never end working on these tractors so i made a framework to press them on. I do have mics and hole guages so i like to press them on when the crank is cold and warm up the pulley around 200 deg so as to not harm the front seal. Always like the set screw to make sure it cant get loose even if i have to drill and tap. Have never used a new one so i dont know what it would mike out for clearence on the crank as used cranks could vary as you never know how many times the pulley has been off and on. good luck and glad to help.

Thanks gene, I couldn't think of anything it would hurt either. I'd rather use a set screw than a real tight shrink fit, just in case I'm the one who has to take it apart the next time.

I would just use a speedi-sleeve on the old pulley and that would fix the sealing area, because those new press fit pulleys are a mess to ever get off again.

I it was mine I'd hone the inside till it was a tap on lightly fit and set screw it.
They seem to get the best of many pullers. I used a 60 ton press on the last one I did and I had the front cover on it as a necklace durng the process.
My opinion,
JimN
