hello all, i have a 460 utility 460 IH that needs some attention. I have a chance to buy a 340 utility with a busted crank for a cheap price. this 340 was working hard when the motor broke with no other mechanical problems. it also has a 2 point lift with a 3 point conversion, and new rubber on all 4 corners! my question is, will the hydraulic pump, pto assembly, and 2 point lift transfer from the 340 to the 460? thanks ahead of time for your answers, greg schnakenberg

I've heard that the PTO units will not interchange well. My grandpa had a 340 and my dad had a 460 utility. They needed to use a combine, the 460's pto had died and the 340 didn't have the power to do it, so they quick switched out the pto's just to get them through. The 340 PTO supposedly ran really slow in the 460. At wide open throttle, it only powered the combine at 1/2 to 3/4 of normal, and it kept plugging up the shakers because they weren't moving fast enough.

Like the other guys, I'm not 100% sure on exactly what parts will interchange, but I'd be willing to bet that most everything will. Can't think of any reason why the hydraulic pump and Fast-Hitch wouldn't interchange. There were two different types of PTO units used on the 340/460/560/660 depending on if it's an early or a late model, and as far as I know, they do not interchage.

Your local Case/ IH dealer may able check those
hydraulic pumps to see they're interchangable.
You can call the Knight Hawk Supply to ask them
as they rebuild pumps. 1-877-739-3200, Hal

Greg: Not sure I have your answer. I'm thinking you should be able to split the two tractors at the clutch housing and bolt your 460 front to the 340 rear. But I'm not certain. Why don't you just skip on over to the left of this page, click on shop for parts, then IH, click on clutch assembly. If the same clutch assembly is shown for both that should tell you it's worth checking further. I would then start checking some part numbers, namely the part number for torque tubes for both tractors. If that torque tube-clutch housing and clutch housing is same for both it can be done. You will have to use 460 sheet metal, at least some of it, maybe all.

Greg, I dont know about the swapping ability, but after you get it all figured out and parts all picked off I might be interested in whats left of the 340 depending on price and location.
