Both were options. The paper pulley will hold a belt a lot better than smooth steel.

The steel pulley on the SW-6 that is original has a crosshair pattern on it. The original owner said that it came new like that and that he never had any trouble blowing corn 45 feet. That tractor is still in his family. The original owner traded on an 824 4x4. The 824 was a German build 65 HP with the 239 motor. Some late 824s had the 268 motor. These were very good sellers in eastern Canada. Direct competition to the White 1465 and 1470. Would leave them in their dust, too. The old lad bought back his SW-6 from the local dealer where he traded, as he increased his holdings. The story goes that the dealer tuned, painted, and put new tires on it, and sold it for 1400 more than the farmer was allowed for it. We had that tractor for a week as a dealer loaner when the SW-6TA was being serviced. I distintly remember the different pulleys and the story behimd them..... QR...

From what I have learned it would appear that the older tractors often had the non steel pulleys. I know of several W and Farmall tractors that were purchased new. With out exception, the Super models had the steel pulley, while the older letter series had the non steel. The non steel was thought to transmit power better. I know that my Father transferred the pulley from his W-6 to his SW6 when he traded tractors. the SW-6 coming with a steel pulley. Two roads over, a SW-6 was sold with a steel pulley and was used to fill silo until the mid 70s with a belt driven blower. Silo got filled. Maybe user preference. Possibly some one with experience can provide a more accurate answer.QR.

I believe yours should of had a paper one. Cast iron pulleys were supplied on the super series to handle the increased power and because the suppliers of the old fiber faced pulleys had gone out of business. Hope this helps you.
