have chance to buy a 1949 super a for 900.00, has 3 pt. added, comes with rear wheel weights, no implements, all sheet metal looks good except for grill, it's bent in a few places and the motor is stuck, is it worth it? 2nd question, I've been told that all super a's had a water pump and all straight a's had NO water pump, by this serial # it is a super a but it has no water pump, any help out there?

Others have given you the anwser about the water pump. In this area that is a good price, if you don't get it let me know.

VA JERRY, I looked at tractor again today and tried to turn flywheel, while on the ground I noticed the block was cracked the length of the block, I'm not taking it, if you are still interested let me know.

The early Super A's didn't come with a water pump,
but you could install a pump. I think tractors starting with SN 356002 had pumps. I think all
the A's, B's and C's could be fitted with a water pump too. I would install a pump if you're going to subject the tractor to heavy useage. Hal

I have a 52 Super A and I gave $500 for it but it was a little on the tough looking side and the motor was stuck but it turned out good! Make sure the block isn"t cracked behind the carb.

Brian:

Moast A's including Supers came without a water pump. Wasn't necessary -- the siphone system and large radiator was more than adequate for most work this little tractor was designed for. Value is dependent on a lot of things, mostly how bad you want it. I paid $1500 for one that ran but I ended up overhauling the engine anyway. Either way, a Super A is a dandy little tractor if you like red.

thanks bjk, I kind of thought the 3 pt. and the rear weights would get part of my money back if I didn't keep the tractor.
