Been trying to line up the clutch on my super A and can't get it right. What do you use?

I use my bushing driver with a driver on the end that just fits into the pilot bearing and what ever socket that will go over that and just fit the clutch hub. The dowel idea should work great too, with a socket, though you may have to whittle it down a bit to get it through a socket You can, if you have enough room, get one eye centered right on the pilot bearing and fiddle with it (the disc) till it looks even and it will go together takes time but will work on tractors because you generally have room to get in there and look at it like lining up rifle sights. What this all boils down to, look around your shop you can find somthing that will work a lot of the time. Some of them I wish I had discovered them 40 or 50 years ago.

Jerry, Get yourself a wooden dowel about 8 -10 inches long that fits inside the pilot bearing and the splines in the clutch disk. It doesn't need to be a tight fit, but it can't be too sloppy either.

Put the clutch together with the dowel in the pilot bearing. Slip the disk over the dowel and put the pressure plate on and tighten it down until it holds the disk against the flywheel. Then take the dowel out.

When you put the tractor back together, put the transmission in neutral and the PTO in gear. Line everything up and have somebody rock the PTO shaft back and forth by hand as it goes together to get the splines to mesh. The PTO will turn the transmission shaft.

I've done it this way several times and it works. I've even done it by myself, but it's easier with a helper.

Well for me i have clutch aligning tools , You and get one of them universal ones from a parts store or tool wagon sears and then lossen up the PPA and center the disc up and thighen the PPA down and slide it on the shaft and to get the splines lined up have a friend turn the pto shaft with locked in and wiggel and jiggel it into place DO NOT PULL IT IN WITH BOLTS as you can damage the center of the disc.

Tractor vet where did you find an alignment tool big enough to most tractors? All the ones I have seen have been for cars and the centers are much too small for most tractors. I end up turning my own tools on a lathe.

i was planning on useing the shaft it's self. but i have the tranny off also. if you have a clutch alignment tool that is a little to small you can wrap it with electrical tape to fit.might try a dowl rod and wrap it to center it.
