I tried the emplement forum , no luck so I thought you IH folks could help me out. I have an older tool bar 4 IH planter that I need to ID so that I can find an owners manual. There are numbers on one side of the gear box, is that the model number? Also just right of the gear box is a small lever and a plate that has 1,2,3,4 settings...what does that do? How do I adjust the planter cans for 30" rows?
Thanks in advance,

Ron

The 1234 on the gearbox was used when power checking corn & it would drop 1,2,3. or 4 kernels per hill. If it is old enough, it may even have a wire check unit which would let the planter drop kernels at -usually 38 or 40 inches to make cross cultivating possible. Don't remember the planter number though. Might be a 424?
