i recently did a carb rebuild and tune-up. put the tractor thru some light work and parked it for a couple of hours. when i returned, i adjusted the brakes, tried to start and starter gave only one click. battery was fully charged. pulled starter and spun it when removed. got a rebuild since it looked pretty tired, installed and problem remained. removed, checked & cleaned all terminals. there seemed to be no resistance in any wires when tested. tried to manually turn the flywheel, but couldn"t get good access to it to see if it would move. the tractor was running fine, until i parked it. is there any remote chance that something seized because of my brake adjustment? anyone have any ideas?

If it is fuel locked, Make SURE the ignition is off when cranking the engine or it will catch on fire for sure. hand cranking the engine is best, or pushing it in high gear to get the fuel out of the cylinders. Changing the oil may be necessary.

how can i hand crank engine? because of my loader frame & cab frame, there is interference with my side access to fly wheel through starter hole and loader pump is operated off of front of engine. is there any other way to turn fly wheel or crank engine?

If you suspect the fuel lock problem, keeping the fuel from squirting out into a volitile mist is the key to safety. Putting a old cotton blanket over ths side of the engine where the plugs were will do it, just make sure the ignition is off. If the loader is on the ground jacking it up then blocking the arms to prevent it lowering will allow the tractor to be pushed in High gear. good luck.

I would pull the plugs to be on the safe side. Then see if the engine will crank. If that starter has a solenoid it could be the problem too. Make sure your tractor is out of gear and take a flat blade screwdriver and short across the small terminals on the solenoid. It should crank. If it doesn't pull the starter and connect it to a battery. Then short across the small terminals to see if the starter drive (bendix) flies forward. Just touch these terminals to see that. Keep your hand or fingers away from that end of the starter. Hal

Stupid question from me but; could you have fuel locked the piston? Gas leaked in your carb and a partial turn might suck it up. Just a guess but pull the plugs and then try it. Jeffcat

When It clicks with good battery it usually means the starter gear is hung in the ring gear. Loosen the sarter bolts about 1/4" and see if it will start then.

sometimes they always stop at the same place and u get a worn place on ring gear. Put in in gear as it shuts down and let the clutch out just as it quits to move leave the starter on a different place on the ring gear.

If all fails pull to start and then go from there.
