756 clutch

Okay... Got this 756, been in the family for almost 30 years. Been a fine horse all that time.

But now, the clutch appears to be going out, it will hardly pull itself in the upper half of the hi range. I'm not looking forward to splitting such a big tractor...

But I notice a pretty regular drip of oil coming from the flat plate just below the clutch area. Now, am I wrong, or isn't this a supposed to be a dry clutch? I'm wondering where my oil's coming from.

For that matter, I'm wondering if the clutch would behave a little better if I took that plate off and got in there with a high-pressure washer and blasted the oil out of it.

Thanks

Sounds like your going to get experence in clutch instalion . It's not that bad . But you will also need a PTO input shaft and maybe a new PTO bearing , i always put a new bearing when i do one and you also have to be careful when installing the two seals . The vary best way of putting the tractor back together is to hang the pressure plate and clutch disc on the input shafts and slide the tractor back together then after the tractor is bolted up then you go thru the inspection cover and bolt up the clutch , this way all that has to line up is the pilot bearing . When ya get done i talk ya thru the adjustments.

Does the oil smell like HY Tran, or engine oil? You probably wouldn't do much good for the clutch with water in the clutch department. Check where oil is coming from & go from there.

Honestly I couldn't tell ya, my nose doesn't work. Hasn't since the motorcycle accident in '94.

But I'm told it's motor oil, leaking past some rear engine seal.
