Turning an F-14 Off

We ran our F-14 today for the first time. The manual says to turn the magneto to the off position to stop the engine (I'm assuming that this is to ground the magneto). That didn't work and we had to choke it to stop the engine. Any ideas out there?

I always turn off the gas. I don't know when the tractor will run again and that empties the float bowl so that varnish won't set up inside the carb.

Do get the mag shut off fixed just as a safety feature it may come in handy some day. Some clubs won't let you show if you can't turn off the engine from the drivers seat.

turn off the gas. Choking to stop an engine is a bad idea because it washes the oil out of the cylinders causing premature wear. I would advise you to get the magneto kill stop fixed. What if the clutch fails and you have to stop in a hurry?

This is a rebuilt magneto and now we are wondering what the problem is and how to fix it.

If you take off the breaker housing cover you should see a tab in there that grounds the points when you retard the spark the whole way. The tab is probably not making contact.
