Thanks to all for the help on the pully fix for the 400.Pully part cost $181.00 and whole water pump with pully part cost $240.00. Went with the new water pump. I have two questions. After installing the new water pump and screwing in the grease fitting I was not sure how much grease to put in the new water pump. Put about five pumps in each fitting is this good or more? Now on to my next fix. I need to find out why if I leave the battery hooked up over night it goes dead. someone posted for me to check for power at the coil with the switch off. I did this and there is no power at the coil with the switch off. I am posting a pic of the alt in hopes that some one can tell me the right diagram to use on BOB'S diagram page.

looking at your pic of the switch, you have it in accesory position. that switch is like a car's. acc off ign start. off is straight up and down. i bet the alternator is wired to the accesory terminal to isolate it from the ignition. that switch was used in gleaner combines too. you could go salvage yard shopping for a proper key.
hope this helps

So are you saying to try leaving the key in the stright up position and in off to see if that is what is draining the battery? The pic might be a little deciving because the key in the switch is twisted. It is an master key that just happem to fit in there and has become twisted with use.

leave the swich key slot in the perfect vertical position so that the proper key can be inserted/removed. keep in mind the acc posistion is counter clockwise from off and all other positions are clockwise from off. i hope it's this simple for you :)

Disconnect the wire that is attached to the alternator stud and see if the battery runs down.
Most likely one of the diodes is leaking.
