For all of you out there who are still skeptical about the benefits of autolite over champion spark plugs, here it from me, Champion plugs are junk. I just replaced brand-new champion plugs with autolite and my f-20 runs better than it ever did, stronger and smoother. Don't fool around with the champion ones.

I had an 87 dakota with the (in)famous 2.2 engine that burned some oil. I had to get the engine hot or the plugs fouled and cleaning them did no good. Went to the auto parts store and asked if I should get a hotter plug or a different brand and he got me a set of autolights. I ran those for six months with no trouble but changed them due to the amount of oil i used. The champions just seem to go bad when there is oil present in the cylinders.

That was 5 or 6 sets of rn12yc's too, I finally beat my dad to the parts store when the last champions went bad. He wouldn't say anything about them fouling out so quick just kept buying more.

Well, based on what you fellows have said, I think I"m going to try an AC, an Autolite, a Champion and an NGK - one in each cylinder! mike

If they are correct plugs it will run just fine provided everything else is correct.

Well, I was really kidding about that. But, I have heard these sparkplug preference discussions for years - and I really enjoy them. Here's a couple:
NGK = "No Good Kind"
AC = "Almost Champion"

I have had the same set of Champion spark plugs in my Super M-TA for over 10 years. Some years worked over 200 acres with it. Still running good.

Had a John Deere baler with a Wisconsin Engine
on it once. Put the proper new Champion Plugs in it and it would start right up.....BUT ONLY ONCE.
Changed to AC, and it started good first time and every time.

I should be smart enough to stay out of plug wars, but I have had more Champions than any other brand, never a problem. As stated below, get the correct heat range, and make sure your tractor is tuned properly -- then any major brand of plug is fine. The plug thing is a perpetual myth. Sort of like detergent vs non detergent oil, or lead additives in gas, etc,etc.

You may be right but I have run thousands of hours using AC, Autolite and Champion plugs and in my opinion all of them are fine if they are correct heat range, gapped right, tractor is not using excessive oil and carburation is right.

I am always amazed how people make a judgement on some something with one bad data point. I agree that all spark plugs are good as NDS said if you use them properly (right heat range and gapping). I remember my dad always said Autolite spark plugs were no good. I really never knew why.

Yes I first heard it 20 years ago. Mechanic couldn't get my pickup to idle right, also had a flat spot under acceleration. He blamed the Champion plugs. So I changed them -- no difference. Rumors die hard.
