Anyone out here willing to enlighten me on putting a 403 gas combine engine (C-263) in a 460d? I checked the old forum some but havn't gone through the entire list. Seems like I read that you have to switch the front plate becasue of a hydralic pump or something? will the one on the diesel work on the gas engine or do you have to find a front plate off a gas tractor engine? Are the flywheels the same or will the diesel flywheel fit on the gas engine? Is the combine engine sleeved or is that a non sleeved engine? You guys have always been super about dumb questions Thanks in advance.

Don't get scared off doing this a little salvage yard visit will get you the stuff you need.A front engine plate and houseing off a 560gas and throttle linkage. You can use the combine governor it will run a little faster. Also a air cleaner tube from cleaner to carb. The motor rear plate and clutch off the diesel will work on the gas.I have changed my 560 and 460 over this way.

Gary if you use it much, keeping it a diesel will pay for it's self. A diesel will use about 1/2 as much fuel as a gas. Where are you at in the MOZARKS. Jim

Thanks, I am sorta retired so I wouldn't be using it all that much except to lift stuff I am working on (old 55-57 chevys and flathead fords) It has a pretty good farmhand F-11 loader on it. Plus some brushoging. I know nothing about diesels, Gas, I know enough to be dangerous. (the old line about a monkey with a handgun comes to mind) We live on a little 50 acre hobby farm Between Jefferson City and Rolla MO. I have heard that OLD, FarmallHal and a couple other fellows on here live close by but I havn't met any of them yet. We have been here going on 5 yrs now.

My late wife was from the Vichy Area just south east of Vichy about 5 miles. Farmall Hal doesn't remember her, but they were in the same class at Rolla High School. If you are reasonably good on gas engines don't let a Diesel scare you price some sleeve kits at auto parts stores and CaseIH at Owensville or MT Sterling. Do stay with name brands though. I recomend Bumper to Bumper in Rolla, though I don't know if we have Sleeve Kits avilable.

I live at Ash Grove 20 minutes north west of Springfield. I married Alice when I lived at Rolla back in 1969, then we moved to Ash Grove in 1971 and I farmed with Dad until he passed away in 1986, I quit farming until 1996. Now at 64 I drive a delivery truck for Bumper to Bumper out of Springfield 9 years this Nov, I did service the Rolla store until last year about this time when they changed the RTS some took Dixon and Rolla off me and gave me Eldorado Springs. It took about 70 miles from me so I get home quicker at the same pay. Alice passed away Dec 2003. Her brother did work for the Maries Co Road Dept on the Vichy side of the river, he way have completly retired by now I saw him in eary June, and he was talking it then.

Fix the diesel it will be less of a hassel then tryen to find the pices for the ft. of the gasser and all the rest of the stuff that you will find that yaneed to make the swap. Now if it was a gasser and you were going to swap them around then it would not be that big of a dieal . And also combine engines were sleeve less .

Thanks Vet, Thats what I was afraid I would hear. Unfortunately I don't have the money to do the overhaul, so it will go on the back burner. Thanks again.
