Where can I find the dimensions for an H and an M? I may have found an old M in a field, but before I talk to the owner, I want to know if it will even fit in my new garage.

What about the weight difference?

Thanks!

International Harvestor Tractor Data book by Guy Fay. H/M wheelbase 88.5/88.75; length 125.25/133.125; Width (axles not tires)75.5/,84.5; Height to top of steering wheel 74/78.25 weight (approx) 4000/5000. Rear wheel weights are 145 lbs each from the factory, others are MUCH heavier. The M is a substantially bigger tractor, height to top of steering wheel is misleading because the H steering shaft is at a greater angle. If you are using a garage, the muffler has to come off, your head and upper body will too if you are not careful. Although the tractors are very similar, you will find the H easier to work on because everything is smaller, lighter and lower.

Smaller, lighter, and lower... yet the tractors are very similar in size? Thats a bit confusing. I really wish I could see two side-by-side. I've looked on the internet, but haven't seen a sid-by-side comparison picture.

How easy is the muffler to take off when pulling either one into a garage?

They are similar in wheelbase and overall width. The M engine is taller and wider, has 248 cu in compared to 152 for the H. The M itself is much taller to the top of the hood. The other dimensions of the H and M are similar because they were designed to use the same mounted equipment. The similarity as to size ends there. Remember it is at least 1000+ lbs heavier.

They are difficult to tell apart and I have several of each. The easy way to tell them from a distance is to study the angle of the steering shaft from the wheel to the hood. The H is quite a bit steeper. After a while you can pick them out at 70 mph.

The M grill also appears shorter and fatter because it is wider while the H appears more narrow but this is a subtle difference.

From the ignition side the H distributor is jambed up against the oil filter while the M has more room. On the carburetor side an H has a little bitty carburetor but the Super H and M look the same.

Happy looking! You can look at these girls and the wife does not mind until she starts to realize you may like them more than her.

The muffler can be very easy or very difficult to remove, all depends on whether you put a clamp on it or not. I have a straight pipe on my MD and it slips over the manifold pipe. So all I have to do is lift the pipe up and it comes right off. How tall is the door OPENING on your garage. If it is approx. 7 feet the H will fit easier. If it is approx. 8 feet or more either would fit without a problem. I have my MD in a garage with a 7 foot opening, if you want to see some pics of how close it is email me and I will send you some.
