how many belts on a 300u?

Hi guys,
Today, while mocking up my power dump cylinders for my loader, I noticed a belt underneath my tractor. It looks quite old, so I looked at the front of the engine. Here's the thing, there is one belt going from the crank to the water pump. There is a pulley (without a belt on it) also on the waterpump (its a dual pulley).
Now for the life of me I cannot find anywhere this belt would go onto. I havent taken the hood off yet. Does the 300u have 2 belts? or was someone just too lazy to throw this broke belt away and just threw it down by the radiator? The belt on it seems fairly new and is why I'm thinking maybe this is the case, but then what is the other pulley on the waterpump for?

Geoff is correct, belt from crankshaft to half of the dual pulley on the water pump, belt to generator on the other half. Not going to run very long that way unless you have one of the few that has a mag.

Thanks for the reply, dad just answered it as well. I know as soon as I took the hood off, I would have seen it. Now, does anyone know the length of the belt, as the old one is fairly mangled up.

Am I correct that the water pump tp crank tension is adjusted by changing the pulley size (by adjusting the pulley)? is the generator on a slide bracket, or does it have the same style pulleys?

Yes, belt tension is adjusted by changing the width of the pulley.

You don't need to know the length of belt; only the application. Just give the parts guy the make, model, year, and displacement. If you can't get anywhere with a parts clerk who might be more at ease with the inventory at McDonalds, call any Case-IH dealer and have him ship you a belt.

Do you have a generator on the tractor? Usually there is a second belt to that.
