How big of a job is it to replace the rear seal?

Mine is leaking about a quart every twelve hours.

Thanks,

Hi Seedsntrees, are you referring to rear seal on the crankshaft of a German D206 Diesel?

Tractor has to be split at clutch housing same as changing clutch. Remove flywheel etc. There are some special instructions concerning replacing the seal as there are 3 ways the new seal can be installed depending on original. So mark or remember how original was installed.

On my brother's 684 D239 engine(similar to D206)it was leaking engine oil about a liter a day and when we changed the clutch and had the flywheel off to be ground we noticed the 4 cap screws on the main seal were loose, so tightened to spec and hasn't leaked a drop in 3 years now.

Thanks, it is a gas engine. I think you are correct about splitting the tractor. I think I just might buy more oil at this time.I put perhaps 20 hours a year on it anyway.

Regards,
