Well, they're 25-30 years old by now, so just about anything could be wrong. If it's got dry fertilizer, make sure the metal pieces at the bottom of the boxes that the tubes connect to aren't rusted out. Make sure the PTO is correct for the tractor you want to run it with. It's very expensive to convert one from 540 RPM to 1000 RPM or the other way around. I agree with what the other guys are telling you, if you want a inexpensive, simple, and reliable older planter, get a Deere 7000 or similar. The old 400 will be cheap to buy but they are much more complicated and can be touchy.

Well since 99% of ya know i like RED TRACTORS but a OLD 1240 john Deere will out plant a 400 Cyclo hands down and ya don't need a PTO to run the planter . SO ya save the tire and Hyd. cyl. and use the rest to make a Toyota !!!!

All cyclo planter are junk compared to a Deere 7000 or 7200. you will gain close to 20 bushels when switching brands. I saw a new one operate once and it did not do half a job with seed placement. For the sake of growing good crops please do not buy one

Around here they bring scrap price, I have two and still use one. they're not the best at seed placement and depth control but i get a decent stand, it was a big step up for me when it replaced the jd 1250 that chain lift marker system was a curse
