JJ: I have not had experience with either of these plows, however I do have a IH dealer parts book containing both plows. Looking at the specs, I can see why you would have trouble deciding between the two. Production of the 411 started in 1958 along with the 460-560 tractors and production of the 420 did not begin until 1963 along with the 06 tractors. That in itself tells me a bit. The parts book shows the 411 as a fast hitch plow, with a kit for converting it to 3 point hitch. There are two different fash hitch hookups. The part numbers are different for 12", 14" or 16" on each fast hitch kit. The first kit is two, probably 3' long fast hitch forks, with a step down bend. These are welled together by what looks like a pipe or shaft and there is only one part number for the whole assembly, depending on whether 12", 14" or 16" plow. The second assembly is a cross member bolted to front of plow, with diagnol plates giving the step down, the two hitch forks about 16" to 18" long. In this case the cross member and each hitch fork have a separate part number. If you could get me some part numbers off the hitch assembly, I think we can nail it. In my manual the 420 is not shown as a fast hitch plow. I have one unknown, just because IH doesn't show fast hitch hook up for the 420, doesn't mean they didn't build it, however the page numbers are in sequence in my book. This book contains about 45 plows and in all cases, possible hitches are on the first two or three pages of a section on a particular plow. I think we can quite safely say your plow is a 411. If you can get me part numbers off the hitch assembly, and they match up with the parts book, I think we could call the decission 100% sure. Even if IH ever did built a fast hitch kit for the 420, it would have different hitch assembly part numbers from the 411.
