444 Hydraulics Again

I came home after work today to try this again. Yes, exactly the same thing happened. The 3PTH came up on its own after about 20 minutes of operation. Both levers are fully forward. And again, the only way to keep it down was to decrease the revs, and shut off the valve. I didn"t run it long this time so it didn"t heat up too much.
Somebody told me that I have to change a filter or I have a blockage somewhere. Where do I go from here? BTW thanks to JB2, Jay Walt, IH2444 and Hugh for responding last time. This board is really popular so it is hard to follow all the strings.

Hi Flying 444, I don't think you have a filter problem. The hydraulic filter is located in the casting under the seat. When sitting on the seat beside your right leg on top of the transmission case are 2 hydraulic lines. The large one is the suction line. About 8" from the casting under the seat on the suction line is about 3" of hydraulic hose with 2 clamps on it. To clean the filter you have to drain the hydraulic oil or put rear wheels in a ditch so that front end is higher than rear wheels. Be sure to BLOCK REAR WHEELS. To drain the hydraulic, loosen above clamps on 3" piece of hydraulic hose and slide it forward or backwards to reveal the jiont in the suction pipe.
Now grasp the piece of suction pipe that goes to the seat casting and rotate it to clear the other pipe. To clean the filter grasp the same pipe and pull forward, the pipe and suction filter should come out of the casting. BECAREFUL not to damage the filter screen.

Re problem, my guess and this is only a guess that there is either a leak in the control valve to the 3pt cylinder or the position sensing system is messed up.

Thanks once again JB2. I am an Construction Project Manager/outboard motor mechanic, so hydraulics are new to me, but I'm never shy of taking on a challenge. The beast that I bought looks like it has been parked under a tree, has a zillion hours on it and has never had any maintenance. For the price I paid, I can't complain. It is one of those British models. The steering is really bad, the steering wheel is barely there and there isn't much left for a seat. I'm buying replacements on ebay, but the steering box will have to come out and get rebuilt. I hear they are really bad for this. Are there parts available? I really appreciate your help.

Hi Flying 444, if you live in Canada there should be no problem getting parts as the B414,434,444 and 384 (all the same tractor with slight difference and different sheet metal) were the most popular 40HP utility tractor in eastern Canada. My brother had a 384 up till about 1991.
Looking at the pictorial representation of the hydraulic system in the B414 Operators Manual, your problem of the hydraulic constantly wanting to lift has to be either the up/down control lever mechanism or the draft control system.
I suspect the draft control system. I was wondering if the draft control sensor is stuck.
This is a stainless steel rod that comes out of the hydraulic reservoir housing right behind where the top link hitch pin hole is. When you move the draft control lever all the way forward the sensor should retract into the hydraulic housing. When you move the draft control lever upwards the sensor should come out and touch the top link casting. This is the feedback sensor to the draft control system along with the spring that is in the top link housing. If the sensor is working OK and you only use the 3pt for bush hogging, there is a possibility of making a bypass circuit.
