I changed the oil in my 57 IH Cub refilled the crankcase with 3 quarts of oil started tractor and now do not have any oil pressure. Does anyone know if there is some kind of valve between the pan and the oil fiter cartridge that could have become stuck or blocked. Any help with this issue would be appreciated.
Thank you Mike

Thank you Jim for the quick reply. I will find the plug and try priming the system that way. It seemed funny that just changing the oil it would loose the oil pressure. I had had 30wt in the tractor and now that winter is coming I had put in 20wt maybe because of the thinner oil it is having a problem picking up the prime. Thank you Mike.

Cubs are notorious for loosing oil prime, There is a 1/4" plug in the oil gallery (I think near the oil filter) which can be used to refill all the lines and get it going. Either there, or in the fitting where the pressure gauge screws into the block. Put a small rubber hose on a squirt oilcan and pump in several oilcans full of a thick oil like 20-50. Continue pumping until there is some resistance to the trigger on the pump, then pump slower for several more pumps on the oilcan. This should prime the pump. Return the fitting you removed and start it. Do not run it for more than 30 seconds or so without oil pressure. If it fails to prime, repeat the above. Others may have other methods this is mine. The oil pump is in the block and cannot be accessed from the pan. Splitting the tractor is the only way to get there. Good luck, JimN

Jim, do all the tractors have this 1/4 pipe plug by the oil filter? Is that the the reason for them, is to prime the oil pump? Just curious. I saw that the 400 or the C had one, and thought it was a drain for the oil filter.

I'm not sure about anything but letter series on the plug, JimN

Did you have good pressure before you changed the oil? Did you use the same weight oil or a lighter oil? I can't imagine anything getting plugged by merely changing the oil. The first thing to do is put a pressure tester on the line and check to see if your gauge has gone south.
