I am looking for the best approach for removing the outside rear wheel bearing on a 1949 Farmall H.

I am also looking for a way to increase the hydraulic pressure on a 1953 Super M.

Paul has it right, however, I would not remove the top cover just to remove the bolt holding the bull gear on the axle. Instead, remove the PTO and then reach through the PTO hole and unscrew that bolt. The same thing is accomplished, but with not as much work, in my oppinion.

To add further to Kirk's comment, place a wood block between the bull gear cap screws and 'jack' the axle out of the housing as you back the screw out. Speaking of blocks, wedge the bull gear up into place before removing the axle because it's heavy and very difficult to hold up while re-assembling.

Its not bad to do but you will probly want to pull the cover off the top then take the wheel and cast center off with the tractor supported good. then take the bolt loose holding the bull gear then take the 4 3/8 bolts loose holding the flange to the axle houseing and pull the axle out. to get at the inside bearing there are 4 bolts holding a plate over that bearing.
