As far as your carb, switch it to a Zenith carb;works better. Probably can get one from this site. My opinion. Patrick (owner of a 51 Super C with a ZENITH carb).

Actually even the very early F-12 IH blocks had a dipstick, and no petcocks on the oil pan, such as the block in my 1934 F-12

novice guy, the serial # tag would be on the tool box for Super C. Since yours does not have the tool box, the engine serial number will be close but not exact. Engine serial # will be under #1 spark plug(front plug, closest one to the radiator) on the block and slightly forward, stamped on the flat machinced surface. You might have to scrape off paint, rust and anything else that might be covering up the #....HTH

Should be two oil checks on the side of the oil pan. Oil level should be between the upper & lower checks. Loosen by turning left-hand & oil should drip out if oil is at that level. Carb number should be on a brass disc riveted to upper surface of carb.

The serial number should be on a silver tag riveted to the bell housing near the junction between the "transmission" and the engine.

There is no dipstick. IH didn't invent the tractor engine oil dipstick until 1957.

You check the oil using the two petcocks on the side of the oil pan under the engine. If the oil doesn't run out of the top petcock, but runs out the bottom petcock, you have enough oil.

Actually IH did have dipstick tractor engiens available in 1947 (cub), but didn't change the design of existng blocks to accept them unless other major changes were made requiring casting changes.
