OT --Suggested hitch for a gooseneck trailer

I finally made the decision and bought a gooseneck trailer to haul my antique Farmalls. Now the question is what type or brand of a hitch I should get? I am not in a big hurry since the trailer was delivered to me and put in my shed. I am currently looking at a B & W with a tip over ball. Granted I have to crawl into the box to physically turn the ball over but I guess I can do that. Any other suggestions and what is a fair price for the B & W?

I also have one of the tip up balls on my pickup. I really like it. I also looked at another kind that retracts vertically out of the box before I got the one I have. It didn't seem to be as good a design as the tip up ball. I could see the posibility of the ball retracting when hitching up and not knowing it (although you probably would have to be sleeping to not notice it). Roger

I'll add another vote for the B&W. I looked at several when I got my first one and decided on the B&W. I'm now on my third one. I've had the same guy install all three. I think the 2 hr estimate is low for a first time installer. The guy who has done mine says he can install 4 per day, but usually only does two. He's no youngster, so does not push himself.

I install all the B&W Turnover hitches for the local Chevrolet dealership here. I highly recommend the use of this one over any other option. I also have one in my own 1-ton and love it. The nice thing is being able to have full use of a flat bed floor when needed.
If you are doing it yourself, it will take approx. 2 hours if you have not done it before. Here, with a helper, we have it down to 35 minutes. Make sure and follow the instructions on bolt tightening procedure although if i remember correctly there is a misprint in this section of the tightening procedure. Study it and do logically!

My vote is also the B&W, It is a great system. I have owned two of them now as I sold the truck with the first one installed.
Both systems I installed myself with no problems.

Enjoy

Bill

I have one like you discribed. It is not that big a deal to change the ball around. It flips over flush so you can still use it to haul a sheet of plywood. Go with it.

My vote is for the B&W. I am very satisfied with mine. Don't know about price, I've had mine for about 6 years now, don't remember what I paid for it, but I do remember that it would have been about as cheap to have the dealer install it as to do it myself. Go back to the dealer you bought the trailer from and see if he can get you the hitch and see if he will install it. I spent the better part of one day installing mine. There were a couple of holes to drill through the frame of the truck, and the instruction sheet recommended removing the box from the truck first, which I did not do. Be advised that there is wiring, fuel lines, etc. that can be damaged if you are not careful.

I see no need to view my opinion on the hitch, It seems we are all on the same page when it comes to the B&W hitch. There well made for sure!
