recently purchased a 1945 B farmall and found it to have a seat assembly similar to that of a M or H. Is this an aftermarket addition or did this come "factory" this way since most B's I have seen have the double leaf spring style. Any ideas?

no, it has a single pivot point fastened by the brakes and slutch and then a " shock absorber" and spring towards the back. i think i seen one on ebay and they said it was a aftermarket Monroe product. thanks for info

That is an aftermarket (Monroe) seat that was designed for the A/B and could have been sold by the dealers.

Thanks, would one suggest leaving it on for restoration purposes, or try to find an original? also missing serial number from seat bracket. anywhere else besides the motor to locate it to verify year and such?

I have seen three Super A's with that same seat. At seeing the first one, I just wrote it off as somebody's barnyard engineering project. Then, as I saw more of them over time, I recalled they (all three) had their serial number tags rivited to the front (base) of the seat - each in the same location, near the front edge of the operator platform.

Later, I saw a discussion on this forum asking about how to climb up on a Super A, and this one fellow said he had the optional "XXXXX XX" (I don't recall what he called it) seat, and commented that it gave him very little foot room on the operator platform of his tractor. And, that is the way the ones were that I saw; they took up considerable room on the floor board.

So....., now I am not so sure that what you have, (and what I have seen on Super A's,) was not some obscure seat option. I would not be so quick to change it out, unless you just want to.

A's, B's came from the factory with the pan seat you are used to seeing. The one you have is an aftermarket. You can purchase the pan seat and leaf springs new to put it back to origional. Hopefully you have the barckts to bolt the leaf springs to still on the tractor. Worst news is if the left seat bracket is missing, that one had the serial number tag on it which may now be gone. I have one like that. Dave.
