They should but that would depend on how they are mounted - in front of or behind the flywheel . As far as I'm aware of ( and my wife say's I'm not aware of much ) the only engine that can be run in either direction is a detroit 2-cycle . Maybe I'm wrong on that one but I do know they will run backwards and still move a piece of heavy machinery ( don't ask how I know that ) not very good but it will ...Randy

Yes a Detroit will run backwards if you put the cam in backwards and reverse the cam gear. Which has been done by one mechanic more than once, without intending to do so. Actually it will run just fine this way, and was designed to be used when needing to reversed the engine direction in a particular application. Which explains why you can actually mount the cam-gear on either end of the camshaft. So moral of this story is not to take the cam-gear off of the camshaft when disassembling a Detroit.

Now they also will run in reverse even when not set up to do so, but not very well and not for very long without issues, which is how you find out you put the cam-gear on the wrong end of the camshaft. Or so a "friend" tells me.

I also believe it you get a backfire while starting, they can start-up in reverse. Which must be interesting to watch.

Starters an virtually all (if not ALL) tractors spin the same way, whether mounted on the right side of the engine, or the left side.

The exception is when the starter is mounted flipped around, and is mounted in the top center, BEHIND the flywheel, as it is on lots of later IH models.

Can not say for sure but it most likely does since most engine turn the same direction. Plus if it didn't they would have had to do something in the tranny for the tractor to work as it should
