Shop/Owners Manual Question

Hello all!

To start, Happy New Year to all!

Secondly, back on topic, is Im just curious about purchasing some manuals for the M I recently picked up. I know I can get them from this site, but I can also get them from binder books and from Case IH itself.

My first question is should I get the service manual for the M from Case or Binder? They have the same part number, but it looks like the one from case also includes the 6 series tractors. It is eight dollars cheaper, but I dont want to get a book that is so generic that I cant really do anything with it.

My second question is; does anyone know what the "Serviceman's Guide to the Farmall M" would be? Binder has it listed as 24 pages, and part number C3795. Im just wondering if this would be something handy to pick up, along with the service and owners manuals.

Thanks in advance!

~Bug

The Serviceman's Guide for Farmall H was aimed at IH's mechanics so they would be familiar with these new tractors. I'm guessing that the M manual is similar. It is full of specifications and adjustment proceedures. It is handy, but may not be necessary if you have the shop manual.

It looks like Binder Books is reprinting the manuals for IH, CIH, CNH, etc. If they have the same part number, they should be the same. Binder Books will also charge you shipping.

The Operator's Manual covers all the routine maintanence stuff like where and when to grease the tractor. Are you getting a parts book too ?

Thanks for the reply!

At this point I wasnt looking to get the parts book as well, since the Case/IH site actually has those diagrams up on it when you do a parts search. If I find one for a song, then perhaps Ill pick it up. But free on the web is pretty good too.

I guess my biggest question is if the ones from binder are reprints of the original manuals, and the ones straight from CIH have been updated at all. I know that new isnt always better, so I wanted to ask if anyone has had any sorts of experience with either company.

I do have the IT shop manual already, but I was thinking about getting the CIH version as well, just to see if it offers anything that might be more handy.

Any thoughts?

The binder books versions have dates from the '40s on the cover, so I don't think that they have been updated. The I&T, and the IH manual complement each other pretty well. The IH manual was more useful when I went through the motor on my H, but is not as good on some of the other sections i.e. transmission.
