OT 12Volt Positive ground question

Just make sure the pump base well insulated from ground and that the fuel hose you use does not have wire reinforcement embedded in it.

Keep in mind also any exposed metal pump parts will be electrically "hot" whenever the pump is running. Recommend covering the exposed metal on the pump with suitable insulation in case it is accidentally contacted by a grounded metal tool, etc.

Ok those electric fuel pumps are surelyyyyy yy permanent magnet motors right????? meaning they (unlike our electromagnetic field starter motors) are polarity sensitive as far as direction of rotation is concerned WE AGREE SO FAR

I AGREE that by insulative mounting methods an external to tank pump can still be wired n work fine

HOWEVERRRRR RRRRR his question and the use of that pump is just something that would make me nervous..... ..... ....

As you point out if the pump field magnet is polarity sensitive the pump will not work right with the polarity reversed. OR the coil may have a clamping diode across it to control transients and arcing when the pump contact points open. The clamping diode then would make it polarity sensitive too.

But these are just guesses....
