I finally went out and got the numbers from the stuck IA. IAA 215866, but engine has M 211060 G. Any clues as to why it is so much earlier and what the "M" and "G" mean? I am guessing the M is 'motor' and G is 'gas' and it is a replacement.

Where is the casting code on the engine? I never looked and this one has about 1/2" of caked gook over most of the engine, I will check my A in the morning and look for the cover. The tractor was a freebie that I just had to haul home. IH mag, Marvel carb, Airlift-complete, with lift part of 2 way moldboard plow I think is an A-187, Orange base paint with blue on the lift under the dirt, stuck engine. Thanks, I will also lood to see if there is an IAA infront of the M.

215866 is a International A built in Louisville KY. The A's built in Louisville -- 1947 only -- have a serial range of 200001-220829. Matching and engine serial numbers occurred only through 201000. But, I don't think the original engine would be 10000 different in only 15000 or so serial numbers. My guess is you have a replacement engine, but I am by no means sure. You could also have a replacement seat. Post some of the casting codes, both on the engine and any other parts of the tractor that you can find. They are cast in raised letters in the month*day*year format of 1*8*Q where Q is 1947 -- add or subtract letters for other years. The engine serial, if original should have the same prefix as the chassis IAA. The Super IAA has the prefix IAAM, but your serial is too low for a Super A engine?? Does it have a pump or covered hole below the distributer/mag? G is the designation for cotton picker attachment -- I don't think that applies to your A, I could be wrong. I also don't know the designation for replacement engines, but I'm sure G does not stand for gas. I have not read your previous post.
