My dad just bought a Farmall H and it smokes some but not like it don't have rings in it. I was wondering if it's just running too rich or what. It don't smoke any more when you crack the throttle open but it smokes just enough to have me wondering any sugestions? i think it's running too rich but i want other opinions. T.I.A. DF

Good morning,

Blue smoke is oil, black smoke is unburned gas, white smoke is coolant. Give us a hint?

Put in some new plugs and then open throttle put in gear and go for a 1 hour ride in road gear with throttle open then see what happens.

Mine smoked. It was not intermittant. I adjusted the mixture...no good. I put in new rings and bingo...no smoke and lots of compression.

What color is the smoke? If it is Black, you are too rich. If it is Blue, you are burning oil.

Most of the time when I start my H it smokes. Then it clears up about 40 seconds. Tried adjusting did not help much. I do not think it is something to get worried about I seen a lot of H’s do that when they first crank over.
